Short Answer:You can tell if a page is secure because the address bar
should have an "s" in it, like this "https", while insecure
sites/pages do not "http" | For example: | | NOT SECURE: | http://my-site.com | | SECURE: | https://my-site.com |
The other thing you will see is a little lock icon in the
bottom right corner of your browser. Detailed Explanation:Sometimes, certain browsers, such as Internet Explorer,
have a difficult time if not everything on the page is secure, such as
images. Please see the related questions
below if you are having this problem. The only exception to the "https" and secure
lock icon appearing, is if your site uses frames. If the secure page is in a
frame, it will be secure, however, you will not see the "s" nor the
lock symbol. Should you need more
explanation, or help with frames, your web-designer can help you more with this. This practice is even occasionally seen today
on large bank websites; but for the most part, we recommend not using frames on
your website for that and many other reasons. You might also find it helpful to include a secure seal
(SSL logo), on your secure pages as an additional tool, which can help
establish trust for your site visitors.
